Our Philosophy

सर्वे भवन्तु सुखिनः

Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinaḥ · May all be happy

The line carried beneath the lotus is a Sanskrit invocation for the wellbeing of all. It sets the standard the work is measured against: support given without condition, to whoever needs it, so that wellbeing is shared rather than selective.

The Foundation

A charitable foundation dedicated to serving underserved communities through meaningful, need-based support — with a focus on preserving dignity and creating lasting impact.

What we do

Ten initiatives spanning education, healthcare, disability support, child welfare, senior care, nutrition and social assistance. Each addresses one clearly identified need.

Who we serve

Underserved communities in and around Patna — students, patients, persons with disabilities, vulnerable children and senior citizens.

Since 2006

Founded in 2006, JKNF carries forward the philanthropic legacy of Late Shri Madhusudan Narayan.

The Founder and Author of the Trust

Late Shri Madhusudan Narayan

1926 – 2018
Retd. Chief Engineer (Irrigation Dept.)

“A life built on discipline, modesty and honesty — and the quiet conviction that whatever little one has, one must still give.”

Shri Madhusudan Narayan was born in 1926 and went on to build a long and distinguished career in public service, rising to the rank of Chief Engineer before his retirement. It was a career shaped by rigour, precision and an unwavering sense of duty — qualities that, in his working years, went into the buildings and infrastructure he was entrusted with, and that, in the decades that followed, he turned toward a different kind of construction: the wellbeing of people who had little.

Retirement, for most, is a season of rest. For Shri Narayan, it was a beginning. In 2006, at an age when many are content to step back, he founded this Trust with a clear and deliberately modest aim: to make life a little better for the poor and the needy, focusing on education, food and the broader social factors that keep families trapped in hardship. He did not set out to build an institution of scale or ambition. He set out to help — one child’s schooling, one family’s next meal, one small intervention at a time — and to keep helping, steadily, for as long as he was able.

What set him apart was not simply that he started the Trust, but how he sustained it. He dedicated the whole of his post-retirement life to this work, treating it not as a hobby or a passing philanthropic gesture but as his second and, in many ways, more meaningful vocation. He gave his time freely, involved himself personally in the Trust’s efforts, and — most tellingly — contributed from his own limited resources to fund the upliftment work the Trust carried out. He did not wait for wealth or surplus to justify generosity; he simply gave what he had, consistently and without fanfare.

Those who knew him describe a man of genuine simplicity. He led a disciplined life, held himself to a quiet standard of modesty, and was known, above all, for his honesty. He sought no recognition for what he built, and asked for none. His was not a public persona built around charity; it was a private commitment, carried out year after year, in the same unassuming manner in which he had lived the rest of his life.

Shri Madhusudan Narayan passed away in 2018, but the Trust he founded did not end with him. He left behind more than an organisation — he left behind a responsibility, which his family has carried forward since, continuing the work of contributing to society in his name and in his spirit. Every initiative the Trust undertakes today, in education, in welfare, and in the wider aim of uplifting those in need, stands on the foundation of the values he lived by: discipline, modesty, honesty, and the belief that giving is not conditional on having much to give.

The Founder’s Centenary

Celebrating 100 years of Late Shri Madhusudan Narayan, our founding trustee and author of the Trust

This year marks the 100th birth anniversary year of the man whose vision the Foundation carries. In his memory, the Trust (now two decades old) will gather his family and its extended community at his residence in Patna for a day of seva and gratitude. It is a special initiative, held only this year, on account of his centenary.

Dec 2026
Friday, 25 December 2026
The Founder’s residence, Patna
On the day
01

Mobility and assistive devices (artificial limbs, wheelchairs, crutches, tricycles) for persons with disabilities.

02

A voluntary blood donation camp, run with a licensed blood bank.

03

Blankets, warm clothing and essentials for families in need, handed over in person.

04
A half-day of felicitation

Honouring the people and institutions through whom the Trust has made a difference, to its work and to the lives of those in need.

Your donation to the centenary supports all three programmes on the day. Every donor receives a receipt by email.

Our approach

Four tests every programme has to pass.

Applied before a drive is run, and again before anything about it is published.

01

Dignity

People are shown as participants, never as subjects of need. No pity framing in images or copy, and no photograph published without consent.

02

Need-based

Every claim names the specific support given — spectacles fitted, fees paid, devices provided. Concrete numbers over general sentiment.

03

Continuity

A legacy carried since 2006. Programmes run as continuing commitments rather than seasonal appeals, so the same community can rely on them.

04

Restraint

One clearly identified need at a time, met in full and reported the same way. Nothing more is claimed than what was done.
